Our History
The club was founded in 1949 by David Bewley and was originally known as St. Peters Y.P.F. (Young Peoples Fellowship) Hockey Club. David became the clubs first Captain and Secretary. Instrumental in the founding of the club was John Tomlinson, with his previous experience as a P.T.I. in the Army, Scout Master and official of Mansfield Harrier he had knowledge of how the club needed to be organised to survive.
It was not until 1957 that the club changed its name to North Notts Men’s Hockey club.
The club colours of Blue and White date back to this time, when the club became a male only club and had to adhere to the leagues “White Only” away rule. The blue shirts were embroided with the gold crossed keys of St Peter and the red sword of St Paul, since Mansfield Parish Church is dedicated to St Peter and St Paul, these still survive to this day as the clubs crest as we remain proud of our history and heritage.
In 2003 North Notts Men’s, Mansfield Ladies and Debdale Colts Hockey Clubs merged together to form North Notts Hockey Club
Our Club Today
In recent years we have seen teams excel in numerous leagues and provided players to County and National Level.
We are a club that welcomes all, so if you are picking up a stick for the first time, would like your child to gain the skills and social development hockey provides or are a competitive player looking for a new side we’d love to see you.
We currently have a thriving Junior section and Academy for our teenage players. Our adults regularly field four women’s and four men’s sides with a vibrant and active social life to go with it.
But recent years haven’t been easy, we’ve overcome a lot!
During covid we lost access to our home ground at Manor Park and were forced to play our hockey at Worksop, some 13 miles away. Despite these difficulties the club fought on and successfully returned to Manor in 2024 taking over the running and management of the pitch. We could not have achieved this without the help of the local council and significant efforts of our Chairman Paul Unwin and Treasurer Marc Johnson.
The home we returned to was much changed from the one we left. After years of use and no investment from the school (who had responsibility at the time), we began the task of bringing the pitch which had fallen into disrepair back to life. After investment of time, money and a lot of graft the pitch is back in full use, not just for Hockey but as a local community asset used by local junior football teams and recreational users.
BUT the story cannot end there…..
The Future
We have a bright future ahead of us, but we have one significant challenge to overcome, we need to relay our pitch! So we are going into overdrive to raise the £400k we need to complete our project and bring our facilities right up to speed for our club and the local community. We need headline sponsors, people to join with us and our vision to keep our club at the heart of the community and to give our town the modern Hockey and community facility it deserves.
